Picture this, the carpet installers are done and about to leave. Do you reach for your wallet? Unlike restaurant waiters, nearly all carpet installers receive a set salary.
It all comes down to your own personal preference, maybe they helped you move furniture out and back into the room. Maybe they helped remove all the old carpet and carried it down a set of stairs? Carpet installers can be really handy, and the job is often never straightforward. Tipping practices differ between cultures. Fun fact! In Singapore tipping over the service charge in restaurants is actually illegal! If you want to give beyond what is asked then go for it. Complimenting them on their work is sometimes more than enough.
Although there is one thing floor installers prefer more than anything else. Most floor installers appreciate it when households make their bathrooms available at all times since nature always calls. Some floor installing jobs take a full day, if not even a couple of days, depending on how large the home is.
Anything else might involve common courtesy of you moving furniture yourself, or even providing snacks for the installers. Even then, some people believe in always tipping, no matter what job category the worker falls under. When extra flooring installing tools are needed, installers often have to pay for them themselves to get the job done on time. Even with a demo hand held Dewalt Jackhammer it was a brutal 2 days.. Every tile fought to the end. I'm uploading some new pics now. All the hardcore demo was finished.
The horrible 60's tiles are gone and the bathroom is stripped. I still need to use my grinder with an 80 grit sanding bit on the shower logs but that can wait until Friday another day I have to take off work! Under the horrible rugs the original hardwood floors are in great shape! We always planned on sanding and staining the main family room and small hallway to the bedroom but now because the kids room floors look so good we don't know if we should still carpet them or sand and stain as well and just add an area rug?
Something to ponder. The kitchen cabinet doors and draws are all removed and now in my garage for cleaning and priming. The hinges are in great shape and I will reuse but I will clean them then spray them oil rubbed bronze to match the new hardware.
All of the cabinet frames have been cleaned and lightly sanded so they also will be primed Friday So now I relax on my second glass of wine trying to figure out what body part does not hurt.. One problem, the stupid dumpster guy totally screwed me and just never showed up so I have a heap of debris outside and no dumpster so now I have a new mission tomorrow morning..
Do the walls first. I like to use a starter strip that is level and just short of one 3x6 tile. That way you can take a small amount off the bottom of the bottom row so you will not have a small sliver on the very bottom. The next day put down the floor and following day grout the floor and wall, You are still missing the bottom row of wall tile start cutting the tile after a few hours but do not stand on the tiles just reach in and get the measurement backbutter the bottom tile and let dry.
