Katayama, president. Marui was an exporter and exported one expensive model of an American Eagle bicycle along with many different Japanese components to WCC. Kawamura Cycles aka Kawamura Sangyo Co. Howie met Mr Yukio Kawamura aka Higesan because of his long standing mustache in at which time he visited the factory for the first time. Howie thought this factory would be able to produce high quality bicycles.

The spirit and passion of Higesan and his staff convinced Howie to work closely with this firm. Higesan was a wise gentleman and took Howie under his wing and taught him much about the production of bicycles.

Howie stayed in the Kawamura residence for weeks at a time. There were many staff members with whom Howie worked with over the years, a few of which were: Atsu Sawada, Ikutaki-san, Katchan, and others. Cohen placed his initial order for bikes with Kawamura, selling them under the American Eagle brand. WCC sold tens of thousands of American Eagle bikes before changing the name — when a customer suggested it was disingenuous to put such an American-sounding name on a Japanese product.

WCC wanted a new, Japanese name that was easy to pronounce, with an none-offensive translation and a name easily pronounced. The name Azuki was chosen for the secondary bicycle line after the sweetened, red Azuki bean , using the chrysanthemum as the Azuki logo. Nishiki is a high quality brand and we believe that Dicks simply sets a higher bar for the companies that wish to sell their bike at Dicks.

We took this bike out for a few different test rides, however only two were on mountain trials. Throughout the city the Nishiki Pueblo performed admirably and the riding experience on flat, even terrain was excellent.

However, taking the bike onto the trails of Southern California was a different story. Our main issue with this mountain bike was the derailleur. Although Nishiki provides you with Shimano derailleurs they were not adjusted properly when we first took our bike out for a test ride.

When riding on flat roads this was not an issue as evidenced by our successful urban experience, but after a couple trail rides we clearly noticed a difference in performance. The poor shifting we were experiencing was due to a front derailleur that had not been properly adjusted and was causing serious issues. The good this is that this problem has nothing to do with the actual Nishiki mountain bike and after bringing it back it for a tune up our problems were solved.

The Nishiki mens Pueblo is a great, affordable option for someone who is looking to get into mountain biking. It has everything that a beginner should be looking for from a sturdy and durable frame, to decently high quality components such as the Shimano derailleurs.

Overall we would give this bike a solid 8 out of 10 and would have given it a 9 if not for the slightly uncomfortable seat that come with the bike. We would recommend this bike to anyone looking for a multipurpose, entry level bike that can also function as an everyday bike for things such as leisure rides, or commutes. Generally women are shorter, and have a shorter reach than men, and because of this, when bike brands like Nishiki mountain bikes produce products that are designed for men, sometimes women get left out to dry.

In my ten years of riding mountain bikes things have changed dramatically, just as they have in almost every area of the world. Traditionally mountain biking has be a sport reserved for men but clearly this stigma is one of the past. However, up until recently there had not been a concerted effort to specifically accommodate women riders. There were mountain bikes for men, and for children, and unisex bike that were a sort of in between mountain bike. Thankfully though, companies like Nishiki mountain bikes are changing that and making two versions of their most popular and successful bikes.

While having a smaller frame is great, how that frame is designed is also very important. Owners of bikes are the reliability. The price range of Nishiki bikes is lower and more affordable than most brands in the same class. Their frames are very strong, durable, and sturdy. You will get different frame sizes for the same bike model, hence allowing you to get the one that fits you perfectly.
